For 100 years almost exactly, 144 South Mason has stood in the heart of downtown Fort Collins. When Everyday Joe's closed in 2024, Connor turned to his wife, Alex, and asked: should we try to do this right? Her answer: only if Sam is in. The rest is history.
Months of renovations followed — new plumbing, electrical, floors, a bar, stairs, walls, paint, more paint, a kitchen, more paint, a patio, doors, mirrors, bathrooms, and yes, more paint. The vision was to create a third space where people could come to celebrate or mourn, eat or drink, or maybe just be.
Since opening, The Neighbor has hosted weddings, parties, memorials, concerts, ballets, and much more. But every morning, you'll find us here with a cup of coffee and a really good avocado toast. Cheers.
It’s pancakes on the kitchen floor at midnight. It’s a two-person dance party on the roof of the parking garage. It’s snuggling in for a sunset at the spot where you had your first date. The way your hands fit together just right. The way they look at you when you laugh.
What would we do without Charli? If Connor is our constant straight line, Sam our dreamer, Alex our conductor, Charli is sitting first chair making it all happen. Everything you taste and smell probably was thoughtfully tested by them, and we have no idea how, but it’s always out of this world. Best burger in town. I’m not kidding.
It was like the wild west behind our cocktail bar, and then Luke walked in the door with his chaps, and horse. It was history. Meticulous, tested and creative, he has taken us from the wild west to the big times baby. That bar is singing and whistling now, and he’s the best at what he does.
Alex bounces back and forth from being the biggest cheerleader on the sidelines, to the strictest head coach you’ve ever had, the best DJ at a night club and at her best, a symphony conductor . She keeps everything looking shiny, stays on top of tik tok trends, and makes sure everyone is smiling.
Connor is steady as a straight line. He will greet you without fail every morning with a huge wave and a “what can I get ya.” Always sourcing the best ingredients, coffee beans, natural wine and beer. He truly puts the “neighbor in THE NEIGHBOR. Not to mention, this was his dream realized, we all just followed.
Sam is our schemer and dreamer of very cool public events. He’s brought music, sports, art and play back into these walls and halls. You can find him most days seated at the bar, with a really good cup of drip plotting his next takeover. He is our problem solver and our peacemaker.
